Avinet Research Supplies (ARS) is owned by the Association of Field Ornithologists and exists to serve bird and bat researchers with essential field gear. Our USA-made mist nets and custom manufactured tools for bird banding and measurement represent the core of our offerings. We serve researchers globally who advance science and conservation. History
Avinet, Inc. was founded in Dryden, New York in August 1987. The first owners of Avinet spearheaded production of the first US-made mist nets available to permitted biologists. In addition, they offered a wide selection of other equipment to field biologists, supplying universities, consultants, federal and state wildlife offices, and more. In November of 2016, Avinet was purchased by the non-profit member organization Association of Field Ornithologists (AFO). As part of this, Avinet moved all business and mist net production operations from Dryden, New York, to Portland, Maine in March 2017 under the management of Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI). AFO and BRI are pleased to continue the work of Avinet, providing the highest quality mist nets and field equipment to biologists, ecologists, and "wildlifers" everywhere. Avinet works closely with organizations throughout Latin America and the Caribbean and is a proud member of NASBR, Bat Conservation International (BCI), CIPAMEX, and the Neotropical Ornithological Society, among others.
